Buddy Bot: a companion robot

Buddy Bot, a small orange robot with a screen showing two eyes, on a track

Buddy Bot is a small interactive robot designed in-house by the LearnOBots team. The idea is a robot children can relate to as a companion: they learn to program with it, and they create their own applications for it.

What it is

  • A small robot with a screen for a face: in the photo, two big eyes.

  • Programmable by the children who use it.

  • Designed to be the starting point for their own applications, not a finished toy.

Why a companion

Children stick with what they care about. A robot with a face and a personality becomes something they want to teach new tricks, and every new trick is a program they wrote.

What children learn with it

  • Programming that makes something happen in the real world.

  • How sensors, screens and motors work together in a robot.

  • Designing interactions: how should a robot respond to a person?

Where to find it

Buddy Bot is in the LearnOBots Marketplace for families and schools, sold by quote.
