Why a creative learning environment for kids is important?

Kids are as fragile as a flower; they grow up learning from their environment. Their thoughts and behavior can easily be mended, thus, it’s our utmost duty that we make them stronger, creative, and mindful, allowing them to have the kind of knowledge they deserve.

Let me ask you one thing, being a teacher or a parent, what do you observe when a kid learns something? Of course, every child is different from another, but what is the common thing in learning? How do you expect a kid to catch up with what you are teaching?

In the history of my student life, like all of you, I’ve been taught by various educators. Everyone had their teaching approach, some taught by traditional teachings methods, but some went out of their way and created an innovative environment. And guess what most of us liked? The innovation, the creativity, the determination, the engaging atmosphere of the classroom, all led to unforced learning.

I remember in grade 8th;I had a class teacher who was famous for being innovative and creating a learning environment and so she did the same for us. As the year started, she made us decorate the classroom which, worth mentioning, we enjoyed a lot.

There was a charm in her that attracted students and that charm was seen in the classroom. We were the only section that was on the top, be it in studies or extracurriculars. Other students would take tips from us and no doubt we felt out of the world. And now when I think about it, I realize that it was the creative teaching tactics and learning environment that made us what we were then. I’ve never experienced such learning after that, to be honest.

Be it music, poetry, drawing, or any other interest, educators need to give this opportunity to every kid. This gives them a sense of pleasure and they manage academics with a free mind.

Creating A pioneering learning environment for children:

  • Mindset. Overall classroom atmosphere depends on the outlook of the educator. If a teacher is excited about his subject, the students tend to follow. Make sure to be passionate about your subject while teaching.
  • Open-ended questions. These have various answers and points of view! Different answers lead to exciting conversations and new ideas.
  • Let the kids take risks. To learn, children need to experience failure. You should provide real-world projects to students to solve problems, offering them an opportunity to learn by failing and trying again until they thrive.
  • A place for all. There are two types of children. Introvert and extrovert. You should keep in mind both while teaching. Extroverts gain their energy socially and introverts get energy by being alone. So, such projects should be given which let both of them thrive.
  • Flexible environments. It’s important for educators to know how to use their classroom space. In classrooms, students should be provided space to work alone, interact with other students and collaborate. Learning spaces should be flexible, leading to group discussions, one-to-one learning, and autonomous thinking.

Conclusion

The future of the kids is in our hands; we need to make their personalities wholesome. During the learning age, if we only focus on traditional and forced learning leading to decreased interest of students then we should know that we’ve failed as a parent, teacher, and nation! Children deserve to have happy and innovative learning; they deserve to have space and we should respect that. Add some cool learning tactics and minus some boring ones, it will do wonders with the kid’s personality leading him to be more confident, risk-taker, innovative, and passionate!
